My Little Gold Fish

Yesterday was Jillu's first swimming class. She was very much excited though she doesnt seem to know what swimming exactly means. We went to the club 15 minutes before and checked in and bought a orange color cap to match with her swim suit. After changing her to the swim suit, we both were waiting outside the pool for the class to begin. There were so many kids of different ages waiting for their classes. My friend had told me that parents were not allowed in the pool area, so I wondered whether Jillu would stay without me. 9:46 AM - we entered the pool. The kids were made to sit on the first step of the pool. The trainer started by teaching them to make balloon face and to blow bubbles in the water. She asked each of the kids to pour water on her head and in turn she poured water on them. Jillu enjoyed all these and did everything with giggles. All the parents stayed in the pool and were watching the kids take their first swimming class.

Then the trainer took the kids for an aeroplane ride in the water. Jillu, being the first, enjoyed it very much.

She stretched her arms out and pretended to be an aeroplane herself. A couple of rounds around the pool, the trainer left her back on the steps and took the next kid around the pool. When all the parents were looking at the second kid, one other kid slipped and fell into the 4ft water. One of the parents noticed that and with a giant leap, he stepped into the pool and pulled the baby out. My heart skipped a beat. That little girl was coughing for couple of minutes and her mommy comforted her a little and she came back to the pool. I moved much closer to Jillu and stayed not more than a ft away. I cautioned her everytime she moved closer to the 4ft water. The trainer took the kids for a couple of aeroplane rides and one round with a floater. My little gold fish kicked her legs as if she is an expert swimmer. After her class, she explained how sincerely she followed her teacher's instruction. "Mommy, I followed my miss' ructions (Directions), I kicked my legs fast.. I did aeroplane in water.Daddy will be so proud of me".

When I drove back, my mind was thinking about three things,

1. Would I have reacted the same way if I had seen the kid? May be I would have,,Who knows how a person would react in case of emergency?

2. Will I be that resilient enough to put the kid back in the pool? I would definetly encourage my baby to learn the essential life skills.

3. Why is that she wants her daddy to be proud of her all the time? Why not mommy??
