Jillu likes to do pretend plays all the time. Everyday she adds a new dimension to this.
We pretend to go to school, she plays mom and I play the kid role. She drops me off at school and arranges my lunch, advises me to eat well and leaves after a couple of hugs and kisses. Then after a while she picks me up. This is just one sample which I think is quiet common for all the kids who started to go to school recently.
One day, we were back from Indian stores and the groceries were on the dining table. My friend Vani had come to our home.Jillu started selling the groceries to her. Vani also pretended to buy them bargaining the price. Finally she sold all the items (worth around $25) for $1. Vani pretended to give 1$ bill.Jilly demanded that she accepts only credit cards. This happened when she was 2+. Kids are all ears. They hear and see everything happening around them.
For her 3rd b'day, she received a Lion and Mouse story book. We used to read it everyday, sometimes 5 to 6 times. I was getting bored by that book. One day after reading the book a couple of times, she said 'Mommy, you be the mouse and I am the lion."She prentended to to catch me and let go of me.I prentended to save her from the net. Then we changed the roles. I played the lion, did a loud roar and pretended to be stuck in the net,Jillu said 'Mommy I will cut the net with my scissors, it is faster'. She did a scissors like movements with her fingers and cut the invisible net around me.
One of my cousins used to play like this. One day she kept standing for a long time with one hand half bent as if a bag was hanging from it.Noticing something different with her, the elders asked 'Why are you standing like this? Are you bored? You want to play with me?'. My sister answered,'No, I am standing in the queue in the ration shop'.
Pretend play is the main part of kid's games. Recently, Bunny banned many pretend plays at our home like 'Mommy-Baby, Teacher-student, cooking with my dishes and her legos. He didn't like Jillu growing up too girly. He even wants to buy a toolkit, work bench kinda toys for her.
She asked Bunny -'Daddy, can I play cop game?'. 'Yes yes, you can play cop game?'
She was happy -
'Mommy you are one cop and I am another cop. I will make 'perugu mummum' (yogurt rice) for you cop'
